Essential Oils – Are they a risk to our pets?

The topic of essential oils being toxic to pets has been spreading through social media recently. So is it true? Are essential oils toxic to our dogs and cats? The answer is sometimes, and cats are more likely to be affected. It is very important to us that our clients are notified of this potential risk. That is why we are sharing with you trustworthy information on this subject.

So to summarize, those who live in homes with cats in particular need to be cautious about their use of essential oils. The toxicity is dependent on what type of oil is used, the concentration of the oil, the application (direct contact, diffusing the oil, ingesting the oil), and the duration of the exposure. Be mindful of what is in your home and what your pets could be exposed to. If you believe that your dog or cat is experiencing a reaction to an essential oil exposure, please contact us, your local emergency clinic, or the Pet Poison Helpline immediately.
