Getting to Know: Nicole
February 2, 2015
This week, we are getting know Nicole, one of our certified veterinary technicians! In her own words…
What make you decide to work at a veterinary clinic?
I have had animals in my life as far back as I can remember. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Where did you go to school, and when did you graduate?
I went to Argosy University in Eagan and graduated in 2006
Do you have an area of special interest in veterinary medicine?
I really like assisting in surgery. It requires much attention to detail and I find it very interesting.
Tell us about your pets.
Right now we have 2 dogs. One retired racing greyhound, Nola who will steal any food you leave out on the counter. You would think I would learn after 6 years to put things out of her reach. We love her in spite of her bad habit. Our other dog is a pug. She is the silliest dog I have ever known. Weighing in at a whopping 12 pounds, she will be your best friend forever and would love nothing more than to sit next to you. Or on you. As long as she’s touching you.
Tell us about your history with GAVC.
I started out as a client here for many years with one dog and two cats. When one of my cats became diabetic and critically ill-the doctors and staff at GAVC gave him the best care possible and I am happy to say he lived another 8 wonderful years! It was during this time that I decided to go back to school to become a CVT. Lucky for me, when I was about half way thru my classes, they had an assistant position open up- I jumped all over the opportunity! I did my internship here and then joined the staff as a Certified Veterinary Technician
What was your favorite food when you were a child?
I don’t know what my favorite food was but I know I hated macaroni and cheese because I had it daily for far too long I guess.
What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod/MP3 player?
Right now it’s Bring the Noise by Public Enemy
What is your favorite indoor or outdoor activity?
Gardening. Always gardening
What chores do you hate doing?
I hate putting clothes away after they’ve been washed and folded
What is the best gift you have ever received?
This year for Christmas, my 13 year old daughter, Alison, gave me a Compliment a Day jar. I love it so much.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading ‘Wild’ by Cheryl Strayed. Can’t put it down!
What is the last movie you saw?
I have been seeing a lot of movies lately which is very unusual for me! Just the other day I went to see American Sniper.
