Getting to Know Olivia!

July 2, 2021

We’re taking this month to get you caught up on all of our new (and not-so-new) staff! This week we’re introducing Olivia, one of our excellent Veterinary Assistants (and future veterinarian!)

Learn more about Olivia in her own words!

What make you decide to work in this field?

I grew up surrounded by animals and the outdoors, so it always felt natural working with animals. My first experiences were with reptiles and amphibians, but now I get to work with both amphibians through research at the U, and dogs and cats here at Grand Avenue Veterinary Center.

Where did you go to school?

Recently, I graduated from the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities with a degree in Animal Science with an emphasis on pre-vet.

Tell us about your pets.

I have two wiener dogs at home that are turning 12 this year. Their names are Thor and Rok and I love them very much:). I also share around 14 betta fish and zebrafish with my roommate as well as some shrimp and snails.

Tell us about your history with Grand Avenue Veterinary Center.

I started working for Grand Avenue Veterinary Center in December of 2019 and I can’t believe I have already been here for 2.5 years, time has flown by!

What’s your favorite food?

My favorite food is chicken fried rice! And anything pasta related is a close second.

What kind of music do you enjoy?

My favorite song is Shotgun by George Ezra or New Light by John Mayer

What are your hobbies?

My favorite outdoor activity is swimming or walking my dogs and my favorite indoor/outdoor activity is probably reading, painting, or gardening

What’s your least-favorite chore?

Anyone who comes into my apartment can probably tell by looking in my kitchen that my least favorite chore is doing dishes since my sink is always full:( I will never take having a dishwasher for granted again and my next place will for sure need to have one! (Update: my new place does have a dishwasher and I love it:))

What’s your favorite sound?

One of my favorite sounds is waking up at my cabin and hearing the birds chirping! I also love the quiet sound of rain

What’s the best give you’ve ever gotten?

The best gift I have ever received was my dogs! They were my Christmas present in 5th grade,  I thought I was only getting one and was surprised with two and they have been my bestest companions since!

What would you like to learn?

If I could learn anything I would want to learn to play the piano since I don’t know how to play any instruments and I think they sound so beautiful

What do you miss about being a kid, and what do you love about being an adult?

What I miss about being a kid is all the time I got to spend with family! With us all grown up now we’re all living in different places and don’t see each other as often. What I love about being an adult is all the independence and the choice of what I want to do with my time.
