What is a CVT?
A Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) is educated to be a nurse, radiography technician, laboratory technician, surgical nurse and client educator. They are educated in the latest medical advances and skilled at working alongside veterinarians to give pets the best medical care possible. They work closely with the veterinarians, veterinary assistants, client service representatives and owners to provide essential care to furry patients.
To become a Certified Veterinary Technician in Minnesota, candidates must be a graduate of an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited Veterinary Technology program and pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam. To continue as a Certified Veterinary Technician, an individual must earn 10 credits attending continuing education classes every two years.
Every year for one week in October we celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week. This event was created by NAVTA (The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America) and recognizes veterinary technicians for their contributions in pet health care. This year, National Vet Tech Week is October 16-22. Join us in celebrating our veterinary technicians!
